Clydebank midfielder Dean Cairns revealed it only took a 10 minute chat to convince him to commit his long term future to the club.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a new two year extension, keeping with the club until the summer of 2028.

Deano, who made 43 appearances last season on his way to being voted as the club’s Player of the Year explained: “I enjoy it here, which is the main thing. I want to be here, the gaffer wants me to be here and Grace wants me to be here so it was a 10 minute chat and an easy decision.

“We had a great season last year, both individually and collectively and although I still had a season left on my contract, the gaffer likes to tie down players as it helps him in the long term.

“I’m enjoying my football and I think Clydebank are seeing the best of me so I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else. I’ve just turned 28 so I’ll be turning 31 by the end of the deal so hopefully it’s my peak years as they say. Age wasn’t really a factor, you see a few of the boys well into their thirties still playing with their slippers on and playing to a high standard.

“Given how well last year went for us, I don’t see why the club can’t go again and I want to be a part of that. I said when I joined that I’d played against Clydebank and you could always tell how good a club it was, but when I joined it only took me a couple of weeks to realise it’s properly run. It’s a really professional set up both on and off the pitch and has the foundations to be a league club, which I know is where the club wants to get to. We’re only one league away from that now, albeit you need some luck to navigate the play-off system, but there’s a nucleus of a squad who are capable of doing it.
