A much improved Clydebank side narrowly lost out 1-0 to Pollok on Saturday as they continue to sit bottom of the Super Premier Division.

Goalkeeper Josh Lumsden saved a penalty kick but it wasn’t enough as Bryan Young’s first half strike separated the sides in front of Clydebank’s highest crowd of the season.

Bankies boss Kieran McAnespie made four changes to the side that lost to Cumnock, with Scott Morrison, Calum Gow, Ryan Deas and himself dropping out in favour as Josh Lumsden, Jamie Darroch, Johnny Allan and Matt McLean reclaimed starting spots.

Despite a fairly positive start to proceedings, Lok were awarded a penalty after 13 minutes when McCann got goal side of Matt McLean, with the academy graduate pushing the forward to the ground. Experienced striker Stefan McCluskey assumed responsibility from the spot, but Lumsden guessed correctly and pushed away his effort.

Buoyed by the penalty save, Bankies went in search of the opener and almost found it when Josh Watt burst down the right channel before cutting him and curling a shot towards goal, but Lok stopper Jordan Longmuir tipped the effort round the post.

Longmuir was then called into action when Adam Asghar fed Johnny Allan with a neat through ball, but Allan’s shot was cut out by the feet of the goalkeeper – who injured himself in the process.

Allan was involved at the other end soon after when Asghar was turned wide on the right, with Allan producing a goal saving challenge to deny McCann a shot on target.

However, on the half hour mark, Lok took the lead. Paul Byrne’s lofted cross was nodded on by Paul Gallacher, with Young controlling the ball well and firing a shot low in at the near post as Low went in ahead at the break.

Bankies started brightly in the second half and threatened again just after the hour mark when Sideserf scythed Shelvey down at edge of area, but Longmuir parried Watt’s effort as Bankies looked for a route back into the game.

Lumsden was called into action midway during the half and produced a contender for save of the season when he somehow kept out Young’s effort which deflected off Johnny Allan and looked destined for the back of the net.

But there was to be no dramatic comeback as Andy Paterson’s last ditch diving header saw the left back skew his effort wide of the post as Bankies were made to rue yet more opportunities.

Up next for Clydebank is the visit of league leaders Kilwinning Rangers, kick off at Holm Park next Saturday is 1:45pm.
