Pollok 4 Clydebank 0

CLYDEBANK fell to their sixth defeat of the season after a second half collapse saw Pollok run out 4-0 winners on Saturday.

Goals from Gary McCann, Ryan McGregor, Allan Mackenzie and Nicky Prentice all in the second period means Kieran McAnespie’s men continue to sit second bottom of the Super Premier Division table.

Without a host of players through injury or unavailability, McAnespie made four changes to the side that beat Cumnock. That meant a league debut for U19s defender Matt McLean while Calum Gow, Phil Johnston and Scott Miller all made the starting eleven.

It was a fairly even start to proceedings at Newlandsfield with Ryan Deas’ early long range effort deflected behind for a corner while Bryan Young threatened down the left channel from the off.

But the made chance of the first half fell to the visitors. A quick counter attack caught out the Lok defence with the final ball just evading Chris Black, who would’ve had an almost open goal to aim for.

Clydebank were almost the creators of their own downfall as the first period drew to a close. David Verlaque’s heavy back pass put Lumsden under pressure and the stopper’s hasty clearance fell to former Bankie Nicky Little, who scooped his effort over the bar.

Eight minutes after the restart, Lok made the breakthrough in style. Cutting in from the right, McCann curled a wonderful left footed effort past Josh Lumsden from the edge of the area.

On 71 minutes, Pollok doubled their lead. Lumsden’s indecision proved costly as Bryan Young’s floated corner found McGregor waiting at the back post, with the defender rising unchallenged to nod home Lok’s second of the afternoon.

And things were about to go from bad to worse for the young stopper. Substitute MacKenzie managed to outfox David Verlaque and Jamie Darroch before firing a shot at Lumsden which squeezed though his legs and trundled over the line.

The home side should’ve added a fourth when MacKenzie easily spun McLean and forced a strong save from Lumsden, with only Jamie Darroch’s last ditch tackle preventing Stuart McCann from burying the rebound.

The home side did add their fourth goal of the afternoon soon after. Calum Gow, recalled from his loan spell due to injuries, was caught trying to dribble out from the back – gifting the ball to Prentice who raced away and stroked home.

Such was Pollok’s second half dominance, Bankies midfielder Ryan Deas was the first to register a shot on target on 85 minutes before McLean tried his luck seconds later as Lok saw out a comfortable win.

Bankies return to league duty in two weeks time, following next week’s international break. Kick off at Holm Park against Girvan on Saturday 21st October is 2pm.
